As reported by Firenzeviola.it, the Corriere dello Sport claims Sousa is eager to extend the contract of exciting young wide forward Federico Bernardeschi. Apparently the new mister sees the youngster as an excellent fit in his system, and the only hold-up seems to be the buy-out clause, as the club has recently become skittish about young attackers unexpectedly leaving.
Berna averaged more than a goal per ninety minutes, with two scored and two assisted in ten appearances (eight off the bench), despite missing most of the season with an unlucky fractured ankle. Deployed in a central role last year on loan Crotone, the 21-year-old impressed enough to be the only Serie B player called to the initial Azzuri World Cup camp, although he was one of the first cuts.
A pacey, left-footed player who likes to cut in from the right, he is (unlike his barber) not a creator so much as a goal scorer, although we saw flashes of his creative ability when he teed up Khouma Babacar for an equalizer against Torino. With Sousa rumored to be focusing on youth, Bernardeschi, along with the recent extension signer Babacar, looks to have a bright future with Fiorentina.
