After a few weeks of interest, Turkish club Beşiktaş remain in pole position to sign Mario Gomez, according to Tuttomercatoweb. International relations manager Erdal Torunogo emphasised that the deal was close stating:
At the moment Gomez is still a Fiorentina player but we are dealing with his transfer with the club and the player's agent. The deal is still not complete, we are waiting for Mario's final decision but we are quite optimistic because the player is attracted to our project. What is missing to close everything? Just the small details. By the middle of next week we will know everything, one way or another.
Beşiktaş are looking at Mario Gomez to fill their striker role, having recently sold Demba Ba to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua for €14 million.
With reported interest from English Premier League side Liverpool, Gomez does have some other options, but it certainly seems that we may have seen the last of Super Mario in a viola shirt.
