Summer clearout could start with Pizarro and Aquilani

The viola will be on the hunt for midfielders once they have sealed a deal for a new coach

Neither David Pizarro nor Alberto Aquilani will be offered a new deal when their contracts expire at the end of this month, according to reports. The midfield duo, both at the club since 2012 have made 83 and 81 appearances respectively for the viola and whilst Aquilani's exit is no surprise after a poor season, 35 year old Pizarro initially looked to have done enough to secure a one year contract extension. The dismissal of Vincenzo Montella, however, has seemingly ended any hopes of another year in Florence for Pek.

Although still not officially confirmed as the new coach, likely new manager Paolo Sousa has much work to do this summer once the official announcement is made, which will seemingly be at the beginning of the week. The Portuguese coach is reputedly keen on keeping Matí Fernández and Borja Valero, but with Jasmin Kurtić heading back to parent club Sassuolo, Fiorentina will no doubt be in the market for midfielders during the current transfer window.
