Paulo Sousa has been brilliant thus far in leading Fiorentina (expected to scrap for a Europa League place) to second place at midseason. After losing Vincenzo Montella and a number of his stalwarts and big signings, the Portuguese mister has schemed la Viola into a well-oiled attacking machine, something both ruthless and attractive.
But there are definitely some shortcomings in the squad, particularly in terms of depth. Fiorentina's ignominious defeat at the hands of Carpi in the Coppa Italia may be something of a blessing, as it spares Sousa the headache of competing on three fronts. However, to really push for the top three--or Scudetto--will require some investment by the Della Valles.
Daniele Pradè has played it typically close to the vest, although the myriad central and right-sided defenders linked to the club over the past several months are a clear indication of his focus (related: check out our coverage of transfer rumors here). However, we've also heard rumors of midfielders, wide men, attackers, and even the odd goalkeeper. So, here's your open forum: what's the main position of need? What are the secondary shortcomings? Where on the field are things pretty well set, thank you very much?
