Fiorentina vs Empoli: Lineups and thread

Late changes

Fiorentina: Paulo Sousa is fielding a slightly experimental side, perhaps with an eye to resting some key international players ahead of a crucial midweek tie against Basel. Nenad Tomovic will somewhat surprisingly start over Facundo Roncaglia in defense. Mario Suárez will continue in the midfield. Ante Rebic, as predicted, will start at right wingback. Perhaps in an effort to pass Empoli off the pitch, the playmakers are Borja Valero and Mati Fernandez (who was an injury doubt), and they'll support Khouma Babacar, not Nikola Kalinic.

Empoli: Manager Marco Giampaolo has also made some changes. Most surprisingly, midfielder Marcel Büchel replaces left back Mário Rui at leftback, so look for Fiorentina to take advantage of his inexperience. Riccardo Saponara is surprisingly healthy enough to start, although he may not last the full ninety.

Lineups

Fiorentina (3-4-2-1): Tatarusanu; Tomovic, Gonzalo, Astori; Rebic, Suarez, Vecino, Alonso; Fernandez, Valero; Babacar

Empoli (4-3-2-1): Skorupski; Laurini, Tonelli, Costa, Buchel; Zielinski, Ronaldo, Paredes; Saponara; Maccarone, Livaja
