The newly formed Fiorentina women's team kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 victory yesterday. Their first ever game was played in the Coppa Italia versus Castelfranco, a team from the Veneto region of Italy, located about 40KM inland of Venice.
Fiorentina took the lead on 29 minutes thanks to a headed goal from Elisabetta Tona. A brace from veteran striker Patrizia Panico followed, including one spectacular overhead kick.
Coach Sauro Fattori was pleased with the inaugural victory and the new signings made, stating that the team was "on track".
The team posed for a celebratory selfie after the victory, which is hopefully the first of many!
