Milan Badelj suffered a knee injury in the yesterday's Coppa Italia match with Atalanta. Fiorentina announced via official website that the injury isn't as bad as previously thought. Medical tests carried out today have revealed a patellar contusion, but luckily there is no damage to ligaments. Badelj already started his treatment, and will undergo further testing next week.

The Croat has featured in only eleven matches this season, five of which in Serie A, and was mostly used in Europa League when starting regista David Pizarro needed a rest. Badelj arrived in the summer from Bundes liga side Hamburger, to be Pizarro's alternative and hopefully, in future, his heir. He didn't live up to expectations yet, but has shown some promising signs in games against Chievo Verona in Serie A last weekend and in Coppa match last night.

The playmaker will certainly miss the game against AS Roma on Sunday, but if the treatments go according to plans, he should be back at Vincenzo Montella's disposal for the away game against Genoa on January 31.
