Fiorentina have announced the 23 man squad to play Real Madrid in Poland, a team that features important exclusions. Neither Juan Cuadrado nor Facundo Roncaglia have been included in Vincenzo Montella's team, a move that is both surprising and seemingly significant. Rumors of imminent transfers for both players have swirled for months now, although the Cuadrado transfer saga has definitely stolen the limelight, with Manchester United and Barcelona both reportedly interested in the Colombian's signature. Some fansites have argued that Montella has excluded the pair solely because they are both ineligible for the season opener away to Roma, however it seems odd to leave starters at home before a glamor friendly when you fill one of the roster spots with Nicolo Gigli, an uncapped 18 year old Primavera defender.
Matias Fernandez, Joaquin, and Iakovenko also miss out on selection for Saturday's friendly. Rafal Wolski does make the squad, and will hopefully get the opportunity to play some minutes versus Real Madrid in his home country. Here's the full squad in alphabetical order:
Alonso, Aquilani, Babacar, Bernardeschi, Borja, Brillante, Gigli, Gomez, Gonzalo, Hegazi, Ilicic, Lazzari, Lezzerini, Neto, Pasqual, Piccini, Pizarro, Rossi, Savic, Tatarusanu, Tomovic, Vargas, Wolski
