GROUP C
High flying Colombia continued their fine form adding three more points to get the full mark. Japan went into the match trying to win it but Colombian counters proved too complicated for the Japanese. It was recently fully owned Fiorentina Juan Cuadrado who scored the first goal for Colombia. In the other match and just before half time, Greece jumped from last place in the group to second when Samaris scored a deserved lead goal against the Ivorian. Japan followed with a tie goal against Colombia bringing hope up as a win for Japan with Greece winning over Ivory Coast would mean Japan qualifies alongside Colombia. It took 10 minutes for Jackson to score after the start of the second half for Colombia and 20 minutes after it was Wilfried scoring for Ivory Coast bringing things back to where they started; Colombia first and Ivory Coast second. In the last 10 minutes, Colombia destroyed any Japanese hopes with two more goals signed by Jackson and James. All eyes switched to the other match and any neutral spectator knew how unlucky the Greeks were hitting the bar twice and playing the better game. The match reached its final stoppage minutes and the referee calls a penalty for Greece and rightfully so. The penalty was converted by Samaras to bolt Greece to the knockout stage to face Costa Rica. The second all South American match in the round of 16 is set between Colombia and Uruguay.
GROUP D
Unlike Netherlands and Colombia, Italy put no effort in winning their match and strategized to hold Uruguay to a draw. The match was as dull as it could be with numerous dives by Balotelli viscous fouls by the Italian in general. The referee was led by the Italians themselves to show Marchisio a straight red after a potential injury inflecting tackle at the hour mark. Uruguay had more space and a whole 30 minutes to score the goal they need. Suarez also thought he had enough time to bite Chellini but the referee was nowhere to be found. Uruguay managed to score the only match with 9 minutes to go by Godin. Italy with only 10 man showed they have the ability to pass and be dangerous in those last minutes that makes you wonder: What if? Costa Rica vs England match had no effect on who qualifies or not and just like its potential, it ended with no goals.
