The Franchi Fall - Ljajic 1-0 Fiorentina

New, comments

Organized Garcia Defenses threw off the purple attacks for 90 minutes. Ex-Purple Ljajic set up the match only goal while Totti & Toloi are changing positions to official goalkeepers since the match authority did not call any of their amazing saves as penalties.

Gabriele Maltinti

Vinny Montella started his last Serie A difficult match against high flying Roma with Neto on goal and Tomovic, Gonzalo, Savic and Pasqual in the backline. The middle was made of last season original three-tenors Pizarro, Aquilani and Valero. Ilicic was positioned behind Cuadrado and Matos. The match started with speed and high flare as both teams entertained the fans. The difference between the teams was pass accuracy regardless of any not called penalties. In my opinion Roma deserved the win and as much as it pains any Fiorentina fan to lose any match, a cold breeze is surely felt that Juventus would not end this round needing 1 point to win the scudetto because of Fiorentina.

The match only goal was set up beautifully by Ljajic who sent a perfect through pass to Naiangolan who slid and sent the ball to the back of the net between Tomovic and Neto. Roma also managed to miss another Ljajic set up chance to Gervinho who won't be beating himself as much if Savic was able to score both his dangerous chances. The side match between Cuadrado and Garcia was a muse to watch; Cuadrado managed to get all Roma defenders booked and Garcia switched his marker after each booking avoiding a second yellow.

In short, Ilicic goes down as the worst player in purple in this match as he looks so good until he shoots or passes. Ilicic failing as a connection between the middle and the front made Fiorentina look like a neck-less fat thing able to do nothing.

Neto

6.0

Although he is not to blame for the goal but he used his body poorly at that moment

DR

Tomovic

6.5

Probably the only Fiorentina player whose crosses are decent

DC

Savic

6.5

Could be blamed for the goal along with the other 6 Fiorentina players who went for Ljajic and left Naiangolan alone but ironically he was the only Fiorentina player with not one but two threatening chances on Roma's goal

DC

Gonzalo

6.5

No mistakes, No bombing

DL

Pasqual

5.0

His side was wide open for long stretches of the match and sent a horrible cross after another

MCR

Aquilani

6.0

Played a good match and brought nice memories of the three tenors performances but the front players failed to do them justice

MCL

Valero

6.5

A player cannot carry a team on his own but Valero had Aquaman and Pizarro but even then... There was nothing going up front

MC

Pizarro

Ruled the whole match with his passes and movements but when he choose to go sideways; the ball is crossed out of bounds and when he chooses to go to the front; he sees Ilicic doing funny things

Was along up there and was fouled consistently. Had a few amazing dribbles but his shooting was off

Although he looks dangerous, he played a pretty regular match as an average player

Anyone saw him except for when he was booked?

Not sure I like his starting lineup nor his subs. He gets a pass only for the players in the stands Rossi and Gomez not being available

What is next?

One match remains before the big Final against Napoli, Matri and Pasqual are not available due to suspension and that should give Wolski to start again and get some playing time. With 4 matches to go and 10 points behind Napoli, they must lose 3 matches and draw one for Fiorentina to get that far away third spot. Inter gained 3 points and are 2 points behind Fiorentina.
