Arrivederci Montecatini

and on to Moena!

The first phase of Fiorentina's pre season ended yesterday with a friendly against local squad, Montecatini Terme. La Viola beat the locals 8-0 with a squad of newcomers, back ups and youth, as most of the regulars still haven't reported.

Fiorentina started the match in a 4-3-3, with Neto in goal, Facundo Roncaglia, Marvin Compper, Ahmed Hegazi and Marcos Alonso in defense. Matias Vecino, Massimo Ambrosini and Marko Bakic filled in the midfield with Joaquin Sanchez, Giuseppe Rossi and Oleksandr Iakovenko in front.

Ambrosini got the scoring off for the team from Firenze, seven minutes into the match, from an assist by Joaquin .

Fiorentina held nearly all the possession early, with Joaquin and Rossi controlling the game for Fiorentina

Iakovenko soon doubled the lead after hitting the post twice and Bakic followed it up with a third from a nice assist from Rossi.

That ended the first half, 3-0 in favor of the purple team.

Fiorentina completely changed the lineup in the second half with Cristiano Lupatelli in goal, Mattia Cassani, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Ruben Olivera and Manuel Pasqual in defense. Romulo, Leonardo Capezzi and Rafal Wolski in middfield, with Federico Bernardeschi, Kenneth Zohore and Ryder Matos in front.

Zohore started the half off with a lot of activity, having a goal disallowed and sending a header slightly wide and the activity paid off as he got the assist on the fourth goal by Wolski.

Bernardeschi followed it up with another goal just a few minutes later.

After a very uninspired and reportedly, ugly performance, Olivera was replaced by Saverio Madrigali. The quote from says it all, "He played like his bags were already packed."

Wolski scored again, followed by Romulo before Wolski had another goal disallowed for offside.

Fiorentina then went down to 9 men after injuries to both Rodriguez and Matos, hopefully those injuries don't prove to be serious.

Zohore finished off the scoring and the first phase of training with a late goal.

By all reports, Joaquin, Rossi and Alonso all looked very good, while the flop of the match was clearly Olivera. Granted he was playing out of position, but still, he very much looks to be way outside the plans of the organization
