9 first team players are still away for International Duty this week. here's an update as to what they've done and what's still up for them...
World Cup Qualifying
Europe
European World Cup Qualifying continues today
53 nations will participate in the European World Cup Qualifiers. 13 of them will qualify for the World Cup.
The 53 nations are broken up into 8 groups of 6 teams and 1 group of 5 teams. Each team will play the others in their group at home and away. The 9 group winners qualify directly to the World Cup, while the 8 best group runners up will go into round two. The eight teams in round two will be paired into four home-and-away series. The 4 winners will go onto the World Cup
Montenegro
Stevan Jovetic and Stefan Savic will face off at San Marino later today. Montenegro tied their first match with Poland and Jovetic had a chance to score the winning goal and scuffed it. He stood up in the press, took ownership of the error and apologized to the fans. 3 Pts are a must today for Jojo and the gang as Poland is hosting Moldova. England is at home against Ukraine, which could be tricky as the Three Lions are missing several players due to injury.
Serbia
Nenad Tomovic and the Serb squad had a scoreless tie at Scotland on match day one and look to get their first win in group action today at home against Wales, who have zero pts. 3 pts are a must as both Belgium and Croatia started off with wins and will play each other today in Brussels. Scotland host Macedonia.
Italy
After a 2-2 tie in Bulgaria, Cesare Prandelli will look to get a win against Malta. Italy are currently in a four way tie for second with 1 pt, behind group leading Armenia. Armenia will play at Bulgaria in the other group match today.
South America
The South American Qualifiers have been underway for a while now. There are 9 participating members, with Brazil automatically qualified as hosts. All 9 teams will play home and away, 16 matches in all. The top 4 places qualifying for the World cup, and the fifth place team advancing to an inter-continental play off with the fifth place team from Asia.
Current Standings
Colombia and Chile
After a 4-0 drubbing of then second place Uruguay, Colombia head to Chile for a match up with the current second place squad. A Viola head to head of Matias Fernandez and Juan Cuadrado is possible. Chile will be looking to take back the group lead while Colombia will be looking to stay in contention.
Other Matches
Morocco
Morocco lost at Mozambique 2-0 in a 2013 Africa Cup Of Nations Qualifier. Mounir El Hamdaoui, by all accounts, having a bad match already, topped it off with a yellow card. The Hammer has returned to Florence. The return leg will be in Morocco in October.
Egypt
Egypt won the first of two friendlies against Benin 2-0. They have one more against Nigeria.
Switzerland
Haris Seferovic scored the third goal as Switzerland saw off Estonia 3-0 to guarantee a spot in the Under 21 championships. The Swiss finished second to Spain.
