New Fiorentina Sporting Director Daniele Prade announced today the completion of a deal set up by old DS Pantaleo Corvino bringing in Egyptian National Team Central Defender Ahmed Hegazy for a reported 1.5 million Euros.
Hegazy is 21 years old, 6 foot 4 inches tall and has spent his entire club career with Ismaily (32 appearances, no goals). He has 5 caps with Egypt, most recently playing a full 90 minutes last Friday as Egypt beat Mozambique 2-0 in CAF's Group G qualifying play. He also has 5 caps for Egypt's under 23 and 11 caps, with 2 goals for the under 20s.
With the likely departures of Cesare Natali and Per Kroldrup, Hegazy will look to anchor the Viola defense for a long time to come. His first words as a Viola:
"Getting to wear the purple shirt is a dream come true; to be in Florence to sign this contract is the best moment of my life and my career, I am a central defender and I'll immediately be available to the next coach.''
