Cagliari v. Fiorentina: Preview

201593_hp.jpgApologies, first, to any Viola fans expecting a decent preview of tomorrow’s match. I spent the day with a good buddy from out of town who is heading to Iraq for the year, and then spent the evening at the grim New England Revolution match. (The Revs, incidentally, were manhandled 3-0 by the Chicago Fire.) So anyway, I had a nice night with good friends, but it didn’t leave me any time to preview tomorrow’s match beyond the bare minimum. My apologies. I’m usually pretty good at previewing the weekend match (I try to get them up by Friday) but with the cup match Thursday night it’s been tough to catch up.

Anyway, for a preview of the coming match, (and a pretty well-written one, at that) please go to Jeremy’s preview of the match at the Cagliari page, which can be found here.

I don’t have much else to add to what he says, actually. Of course the Milan derby will be critical, and many of us will find ourselves in the curious position of rooting like hell for Inter. A Milan loss coupled with a Fiorentina victory would give us a five-point cushion with two to play; it certainly wouldn’t clinch the season, but it would make me a hell of a lot more comfortable. Our biggest concern right now, of course, is the emotional and physical exhaustion resulting from Thursday’s draining game. Hopefully the boys can shake it ff and come up with a good result tomorrow.

Starting Line-Ups (AKA The Blind Guess Department)

Cagliari: Capecchi- Ferri, Bianco, Canini, Pisano- Foggia, Biondini, Cossu, Matri- Acquafresca, Jeda

Fiorentina: Gobbi, Gamberini, Kroldrup, Ujfalusi- Kuzmanovic, Donadel, Montolivo- Santana, Pazzini, Mutu

(There are reports that Acquafresca may not play. Feel free to take the day off, young man. You frighten me.)

Prediction

1-0 Fiorentina. (Talk about a blind Guess)

TV Situation

The game will be shown at 4PM EST here in the States on FSC. The airing will be significantly tape-delayed.

I will be back tomorrow night with a recap like a good, responsible blogger. Forza Viola!
